Standing Throw Calculations? 4 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 7
Does anyone have any real life examples of their standing throw distances compared to their actual full throw distances (In reference to the standing throw distance article on the site)?

After reading through this and considering it more... my technique was pretty much always terrible. My 1 spin throws in the hammer/weight and standing throws were't all that much further than my PR's...

When I was throwing 165' to 170' I had a consistent stand throw of about 130'. Not sure if that compares to other throwers, but it has been my experience that many of my thrower's stand throws are 65-80% of the distance of there full throw. I know that is a big percentage range, but with varying size, strength, technique, it can vary a lot.

Throwing discus in college I had a standing throw of 110-125 feet. Full throws were around 170 with an occasional 180-190 warm-up toss. I was also 5' 11" and around 195lbs if that matters at all.

I am a sophomore in high school right now and I am 6 foot 190 pounds. I throw about 110-115 standing and 130-135 full throw. I hope it helps!

when I was in highschool my standthrow was usually 120-130ft then one day I changed my grip and I Shot up to 150ish. I was throwing 165 as a sophomore with a 120-130 sand and a junior I was 150ish with a 185 full spin

by my senior year I had hit 204'10" and my stand throws were usually mid 160's peaking ou in the low 170's on a good day.

now with the 2k one of my team mates can sand throw 170' Ive seen him do i, but his disc PR is 178'

righ now Im standing mid 150's and Ive gone 190'7" with the 2k

In college I would stand throw the 2K about 140' and my full throws in competition would end up at 178'. In high school I was throwing the 1.6k 120' standing and in full throws about 152'. Hope that helps.

I had no technique when I was a high school kid. I just had a gun for an arm. I had a power throw in a meet at 165 and my life time PR was 180 for a full. In college my power was around 145-150 with a 186 PR with a full.

Who has the biggest powers that anybody has seen? I remember my first outdoor meet in college I saw John Davis power throwing the shot 60-62.

My Junior year I was in a meet agaist John Godina and he told me his power throw was 180's. Kind of scared me because my PR at the time was 183.

Apparently I was a bit off as well. That's not surprising thing, considering I never had a throws coach in high school or college. Every now and then, a coach from another school would help out after a meet, but other than that, we were on our own.

For high school, my best standing throw in shot was 50ft, but my best full was only just over 53. In disc, my best standing throw was around 135, but my best full was 147. In college, my best stand was around 130 and best full was just over 148 for disc. Shot was 45 for stand, and only 47'9" with a full. Hammer was a little better for me though. My best one turn was 155ish and my best 2 turn was 180, three turn was around the same. Weight was 51 with a 1 turn and 57 with a 2 turn.

Luckily though, I picked up some things along the way and since I started coaching 8 seasons ago. I'm still learning new stuff every year and I love being a "sponge" to other coaches.
