how old is to old to begin 4 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm 23 and from south africa.

ive done shotputting in my highshcool years and was pretty good at it.

I didnt do the best I think I could have done though.

Resently im doing my hounors degree in sport science, and i would love to start again with training.

If I start training now, at what age am I supposed to reach my peak performance.?

Whats the approx age of the lesding shotputters in the world.?

The top shot putters in the world are usually in their late 20's, some last into their early 30's. I'll be honest, unless you have one in a billion genetics, I would guess 23 is too old to set the world on fire. But you are still young enough to handle intense training, both in the weight room and in the circle. What level of competition are you thinking of trying to get to, or how far do you realistically think you can throw?

For the record, you're never too old to start and just have fun with it.

How old is too old totally depends on your goals and what level of competition you feel you can attain. My dad always loved throwing... he threw through high school and college and then started missing it when he was in his 30's. At this point he started training again and going to several meets a year. He finally decided to call it quits in his late 50's. He loved the sport, loved the competition and loved studying the technique and learning to get better... The timing of him restarting his career was irrelevant to achieve this.

You're never too old to go out and see what you can do! Who knows, maybe the time off and maturity will pay off and be a benefit! I have met many "older" athletes that didn't even start throwing until they were in their late 30s or 40s, but find it very, very addicting.

If you like it,the distance will come! There are Senior events,Masters events where you compete by age group-you have a long throwing future ahead of you. Get going! Don't be a couch potato. You might even consider all the other throwing events. But be careful throwing can be addictive!
