I use something called a tap drill in which the athletes will slowly begin the spin on their left leg and tap outside the ring all the way around the back until they get to the drive (to the center) portion of the throw. I think this teaches them balance and control at the start of the spin.

Have them do 90,180,270,360 degree piviot drills. Then do the tap drill as stated in a previous post. Also walk through each postion and if possible put the thrower in the right postion, even if you have to physically move them. Once it is done enough nerological pathways will start to develop and the thrower will begin to do it on their own.

Nickerson drill on the right foot in the middle and work back. I also do the drills above as well. Sprint to stops on backward 7's. We drill these drills every day. We practice for the first half hour and never throw a shot. I also do a pole drill for the begining of the throw on the left foot. Tap and go's, towel dril, there are thousands of drills to do pick the ones that fit your needs. I am starting to not like the South African drill for shot. I don't know why I am still figuring that out. I am getting away from it though.
