TOPIC: Help with the Glide Technique

Help with the Glide Technique 3 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm a 6'1, 225lbs junior in high school. I have been using the glide for 3 years now and although I have seen some increased results, 35' freshman year to my current 44' best, I haven't really noticed any outstanding results. I'm getting to the toe-board, or within inches to it, with decent speed and I end up in close to perfect power position each time, but I cannot think of what I am missing that is keeping my throws from being better. Any suggestions? Thanks you

I am going to guess that at 6'1" 225lbs, that you are not hitting your power position perfectly, or are not using it perfectly if you are throwing 44'. Put a video on you tube and then pst the address.

Otherwise, based on what you have said, I would say focus on rhythm, separation of the hips and shoulders, and height of release (height oof hips at release as well), and see if any of that helps.

well like i said, its close to perfect, i know im still ending up with both feet parallel and not having my stance open, which i know is not what i want to have happen. i guess im looking for help on how to to get open completely and not in between closed and open if that makes sense

How often are you working in the ring trying to get your feet in the correct position? Try working without a shot. Do multiple reps, just concentrating on feet in the proper position, while still being torqued and in the power position. Perhaps you could chalk the ring where you want your feet to land. Do a rep and check yourself. Sounds like you just need rep work to strengthen this habit of closing off your hips w/ your left foot.

You need to tape your self and determine if you are shooting your front foot back at a slight angle or not you need to land with your feet at a heel toe relationship with the heel of your back foot to the toe of your front foot. Then when you land in your power postion off the glide you need to keep your head and shoulders back and piviot your feet all the way through which will bring your upper body through the throw. The cadance should be toe, knee, hip, shoulder, arm. with the head and chest up at the finish also your arm should not go above a 45 degree angle. This can be prevented by keeping your shoulders level all the way through the throw. It sounds like you may be shifting your weight in the front. All of your weight needs to be over your back foot. Its a little harder to teach on the internet. But I hope that helps.
