TOPIC: Training programs - Core training?

Training programs - Core training? 4 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 7
I know there are a lot of coaches out there and strength training professionals... Does anyone have any good CORE training programs or guidelines for incorporating core training into your workouts? I have been trying a lot of different things lately and need to switch it up a bit with a good program. If anyone has one can you please post it here, in the media gallery, or email it to me at mseifert@throwfarther.com?

If anyone has any good training programs to share please email them to us and I'll post them appropriately.

Thanks!

I don't have any specific programs but I can tell you the best core exercise ever, brian oldfield talked about it in his recent interview that was posted on macthrowvideo a few weeks ago, take a highland games style weight (or just loop a chain through some weight plates like i did) then throw it with one hand the way you would throw the 56 lbs. weight in the highland games, except do multiple turns with it, like up to 10 turns before releasing. Experiment with what weights and what speeds to turn at are best for you/your athletes if you are coaching. This exercise will get your core in shape real quick!
and don't forget to do it spinning in both directions!

Now that is a very interesting idea, definitely makes sense... Thanks for the recommendation!

Does anyone have a video of the 56lb weight throw they can upload?

Since I posted this there has been a great article added to the ThrowFarther.com site on core training, puds, and medicine ball abdominal training. If you are interested in this topic check out the article and videos.

I personally like holding an exercise ball in my arms, standing by a adjustable height cable machine, taking a handle in the far hadn and doing rotations. The cable will just wrap around the exercise ball and gives a nice constant resistance. Often rotational core work is neglected.

I also like taking one end of a dumbbell, holding it out in front of my chest and then swinging it from side to side, rotating around the spine. This works both stability and strength.

I also like Mike Koenning's L-overs.
