What are your summer training plans? 2 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 6
Now that the outdoor season is quickly coming to an end, what are your training plans for the summer? Are you going to continue throwing? Train for football? What are you doing for a training program? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

We have received good feedback in the past on the ThrowFarther summer training program. It is a two part, 8 week training program designed for the summer months. In addition to this we have recently posted a new 6 week program by Jeremiah Rolfs called 6 Week Core Strength and Athleticism. Both of these are good options if you are not sure where to start.

We will be training and competeing as a team in our local Highland games that take place in August. After that, I plan on taking them through the Throwfarther offseason workouts as well as the conditioning workout for throwers. Many of my guys have very little skill in the olympic lifts, so I also plan on developing those lifts.

I like to have my throwers use the summer to refine technique in advance of the fall where they will most likely have their time taken by football. It is a great time to build greater strength, and technical proficiency in the lifts particularly the olympic lifts. I even like to train with different modalities such as kettlebells to build this strength and even teach a little bit about the olympic lifts.

Here is a good article on kettlebell training from MF athletics.

Hopefully this helps a little. Good luck with your training
