TOPIC: Discus throws to right

Discus throws to right 1 Year, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
My son is an experienced high school thrower (in the 170+ range). He sometimes has problems with thorwing the discus just inside, or just out-of-bounds on the right sector (he is right handed). His foot placement seems fine and does not appear to be "rushing" the throw. Anyone have any tips? Thanks!

Give him a target to throw towards. Put something out in the middle of the sector, Like a tier and let him try to hit it. It is my experience with high schoolers that they will throw to that tier. Also tell him to push through the discus and out past the circle before he lets go. Look at the video and see if his shoulders are level and then look at his head. Sometimes when the shoulders aren't level it can cause a thrower to subconciously throw early since they are off balance. If you don't see anything there or you also see the head is to fast in the throw that is another option. The head should come around just before the discus. I always tell my kids toe, knew, hip, shoulder, arm. He should be able to see the discus leave his hand from the corner of his eye. If not then his head maybe to fast coming out of the roation which will cause him to throw sooner (subconciously again). Good Luck.
