Reverse vs. Non-reverse 1 Year, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
I've been using a full with reverse for about a year now but recently I started the east german style (non-reverse) and to me it looks like it's getting better lift and gliding better than my full with reverse.. Does anybody know the advantages and disadvantages of the east german?

It really depends on the person. In my opinion the Reverse will actaully give you a little more distance because if done right you are reaching a full arm length past the circle which allows for more contact with discus and also finishes your throw off out side the ring verses inside with the nonreverse. However, the nonreverse has a more complete transfer of energy to the discus if performed perfectly. But if you can't get your hips into the throw it doesn't you have a little more lyway with the reverse. Also over time the nonreverse I would think would do more damage to the joints in the legs and the muscles in the back and the legs. In high school I didn't have a coach and I did the nonreverse because I had never heard of the reverse, I through around 154' with it. But when I went to College I begain to reverse and it seemed so much easier and I ended my carrer with throws in the 177's. I only competed for a total of 7 years and when I stopped I was still going up every year by about 10-12 feet. So I wouldn't just give up on the reverse yet, personally.
