TOPIC: Jumping At The End Of My Throw
#186
Jumping At The End Of My Throw 3 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
It is the end of the spring season right now and I am in the middle of my most important meets but lately I have ben encountering this weird problem in my discus throw I have never experienced before: jumping at release. I just do a hop right at the end of my throw and it causes an unevenness, a terrible release, and sends me flying to the ground. No matter what I try I cannot get rid of it. Can anyone please help me?

First I have to ask if you have been watching videos. there is a reverse in the discus at the end of the throw. Some people can get away with not doing it but it is hard on the body. If you are doing a reveres like it sounds you need to check your weight distribution which needs to be on your back foot in your power postition and you cannot shift your hips over to your other foot or you will loose control. I would start by working on it from the front of the circle from your stands. But as for getting rid of it I don't exactly know why you want to. It will just take more practice, get a coach to watch you, one that knows what they are doing.

Sounds to me like your not setting the left for a good block. I have a thrower who does the same thing and the disc goes very high and not very far. I constantly remind him to straighten the left and block first then finish the throw to the right foot with a jump and he will make good throws. Your not finishing the throw with the leverage of the left and the weight transfer. Try some blocking drills out of the South African or Nickerson drills where your in full speed rotationally. Matter of fact only do the Nickerson drill on your right foot until you can get it then move to SA or whatever drills you normally do.
